If it drops off pressure then it needs to be rebuilt or the internal filters need to be replaced at least. Finally if HP fuel pressure stays up, and it still runs poorly, your injectors are clogged and need to be cleaned or replaced.

The so called "mystery" filters are actually 2 microns, with the Fuel water separator and primary and VST filter being 10 microns.
